We have conducted studies with many of our clients to determine the amount of time spent in preparing safety permitting, specifically for Lockout-Tagout (LOTO). Following are the results:

15.52 minutes: Average time required to create LOTO permits using the typical paper based system.

3.47 minutes: Average time per isolation tag (time to create LOTO permits divided by the number of tags) to write out [by hand] the isolation tags using the typical paper system. A single event requiring 100 isolation tags would need to have operators spend almost six hours just filling out [writing] the tags.
